The Harley Benton Multiscale Eight-String guitar is stunning!

When I first laid eyes on the Harley Benton Multiscale Eight-String guitar, I was hit with a wave of excitement. Luckily, I’m Australian and I live near the coast, so I’m used to all kinds of waves. Excitement waves however, are my favourite kind.

This guitar—also known as the Multiscale-8 NT QBB—promised features I had never experienced before. I therefore couldn’t wait to dive—I’m sensing a theme here—into the unboxing. As I opened the package, my heart raced with anticipation, wondering if this guitar would live up to my high expectations.

A unique addition to my collection

As a guitar enthusiast, I’ve amassed a nice collection over the years, but this particular guitar was special. It boasts features that none of my other guitars have, including a neck-through construction with fanned frets, and eight strings. The moment I pulled it from the box, I was captivated by its sleek design and craftsmanship. The finish was stunning, and I couldn’t help but admire the sexy reverse headstock.

Reversed headstock with eight machine heads?! My mind was blown.

“I love this guitar,” was the first thought that crossed my mind as I held it. I was eager to plug it into my DAW and see how it performed.

First impressions matter

As I took my first strum of the Harley Benton Multiscale Eight-String guitar, I was blown away by the sound. “I am stoked,” I exclaimed, feeling the guitar’s resonance in my hands. The quality of this instrument was remarkable, especially considering I had purchased it for just $844 (Australian dollars), shipped all the way from Germany. The fact that it arrived in under a week was astonishing.

The eight-string configuration was something new for me, and I was excited to explore the possibilities it offered. I was particularly impressed with the build quality. There were no sharp edges on the frets, and everything felt tight and well-constructed.

Unboxing experience: what’s inside?

Let’s talk about the unboxing experience itself. As I carefully removed the layers of packaging, I discovered not just the guitar but also an accessory pack. Inside were plectrums, a guitar lead, and even a guitar strap. Everything was neatly packed, and I appreciated the attention to detail, including the silica gel bags that ensured the guitar remained fresh during transit.

Nobody likes a stale guitar.

Key features of the Harley Benton Eight-String guitar

What makes this guitar stand out? Here are some of the key features:

  • Neck-Through Construction: This design adds stability and sustain, allowing for a more resonant sound.
  • Fanned Frets: This feature enhances playability and intonation, making it easier to reach higher notes.
  • String-Through Body: This design contributes to the guitar’s sustain and resonance.

Testing the Sound

After admiring the guitar’s aesthetics, it was time for the real test: sound quality. I plugged it into my DAW and started recording. The tones were rich and full, and I could easily navigate the thick (fretboard width) neck. The guitar performed beautifully.

It would probably do better with a more experienced guitarist.
