Recently I came across the very affordable Donner LP-124B on sale. Through a combination of the seller having an online sale, and the website I purchase through providing additional savings for being a valued customer, I could buy this guitar for under $120 (Australian dollars) including delivery. I couldn’t resist. Let’s see if it was worth it.
Well, there’s a title I never thought I’d type. Who sends a guitar pedal into space? Chaos Audio does. That’s who. They’re the first company to send a guitar pedal into space and they did it with their Stratus guitar pedal.
It’s a seriously cool and impressive video to watch.
If you are a heavy metal guitar fan and also frequent YouTube, chances are high that you are aware of the SWOLA riff challenge that Ola Englund started with the second entry in his long-running Sunday With Ola (SWOLA) series. If you’re not aware, I recommend checking the SWOLA videos out.
Any time I think about getting a new guitar, I go looking for something that brings something different to the existing collection. The Wes Borland 4-string bass/guitar hybrid that Paul Reed Smith (PRS) Guitars has created ticks more of those something new boxes than most guitars on the market currently.
This year, for my ongoing guitar fascination, I thought I’d try something different. Rather than buying another guitar, I thought I’d try to build one. Now, when I say build, I mean to attempt a guitar kit build—which is one step up from using a virtual guitar builder to design and buy a guitar.
I should start this list with a few disclaimers. Firstly, where I’m from, favourite has a U in it. Sorry online grammar checker! Secondly, these are purely my personal 10 favourite albums of 2021. This isn’t supposed to be interpreted as some kind of best-of list. I don’t believe I have the qualifications to attempt to rank something like musical ability or quality. Music is interpretive. That’s one of the reasons it’s so awesome.
There were a lot of things I craved in 2021. One was an end to the pandemic that will most likely never end. Another was an end to the incredibly stressful working year I endured. Neither of those things looks like they’ll get better any time soon. However, Gibson did release the Dave Mustaine Flying V EXP and it was all I hoped for.
Well, almost. I hoped to get one, but it seems that is what 2022 may be for.
I love it when new gear is introduced to the guitar community. There are so many clever people out there continuing to bring innovation to the realm of guitar playing. The OMEC Teleport audio interface guitar pedal looks to be the next piece of innovative gear I’m going to have to buy.
What could be better than another guitar play through video? How about a video shot inside a warehouse where the awesome Seymour Duncan pickups are manufactured. Yep. That should do it.
I’m not sure how many entries I’ll end up having in this guitar play through series, but I know it can’t end without a video by Andy James. I’ve been a fan of Andy’s guitar playing for years. Hopefully, this example helps explains why.
